Journey to Health

Journey to Health

It is true "a picture is worth a thousand words."  June is officially my Trimaversary month. After having my 6th baby at 40 I began the battle of the bulge. I counted points, carbs, low fat, packaged meals and nothing kept me motivated. I was addicted to sugar and carbohydrates and was a stress eater. My motto was, "life is short hit the dessert bar first." I lost and gained the same 30 pounds too many times to count. My last attempt to lose weight was in 2011 when my son and two of my daughters were getting married within 10 months of each other. Yep, you guessed it, I lost my infamous 30 pounds. That was May 2011, by May 2013 I was back at my comfy weight of 244 pounds and I was in my 60's. Thus began my thought process, "I'm in my 60's who am I kidding?  I'm not going to be able to lose weight any more, so why not just be content?"  I was, for the most part, content. I no longer looked at myself in a mirror and hated my image. It was what it was and I was choosing to be content. Ladies can I just say that the enemy of our soul will use any means to keep us from victory!

January 2015 our first grandson was born and we were going to have two more grand babies that same year, remember the 3 who got married? I couldn't even carry my grandson from his bed to the couch without being in so much pain I worried I might drop him. I knew I'd never be able to sit on the floor with him.

In March 2015 I began crying out to the Lord. "Lord I need something, anything, I will do anything to lose some weight and do my best to get healthy ANYTHING!"  I love Pinterest; who doesn't, and started a new board, "eating a little healthier." I'm not sure why (today I believe it was Divine Intervention) but Trim Healthy Mama testimonies began posting on my FB page. Intrigued I did some research and knew this must have been from the Lord to me. I ordered the original book in April and began reading. I am a slow reader, do not comprehend easily, and details are NOT my thing. I purposed to read the entire book and have somewhat of a grasp on the plan before I jumped on board.

May 1, 2015 I came off all sugar, white flour, rice, and carbohydrates cold turkey! June 1st I weighed myself and I had lost 11 pounds just by cutting out sugar! I was hooked! I am a "Drive through Sue" in everything I do.  I simply started cooking from the cookbook. If the sisters suggested a side, we had a side, if not...we enjoyed our yummy casserole all by itself :-)

Christmas 2015 I was down 32 pounds and numerous inches (I did not take measurements). In January 2016 I took my first group of ladies through the study guide; I learned so much more as I read the new book right along with them. In April I took my second group of ladies through the study guide and learned even more.....today I can make a complete meal =) I have lost another 19 pounds since January.

Here are my stats:
I am 5'10"
64 years young
May 2015 I weighed 244 pounds and wore a size 2-3x top & 20-22 pants.
June 2016 I am down 51 pounds wear a size xl top & a loose 16 pants.
I have gained control not only of my weight but my health! Everyone I meet hears about Trim Healthy Mama....... EVERYONE!!!!
Ladies take photos (plenty) and take your measurments (the scale does not tell the truth). Every day we have a choice to take care of ourselves and in this case, every 3 hours! If you are on the fence jump off and start today. God is faithful to meet us just where we are.

Cynthia

Meet Gaylene Templeton

Gaylene Templeton  (better known as GayGay to her 7 grandchildren) has been married to Ray (Beltway Elder) for 42 years.  They have 5 children: Amy, Misty, Ashlee, Abe, and Addison.  Their children range in age from 41 to 24, and their grandchildren range in age from 20 to in-the-womb (expected in December and March). Gaylene is passionate about being the best wife, mother, and GayGay she can be.  She was truly stretched in her faith when she was only 17, and had her first child.  "The biggest faith step would be trusting God to provide for our family and give us the wisdom to raise Godly children.  The Lord helped me through this with prayer, Bible study, and Christian fellowship." Little did Gaylene anticipate, about 4 years ago, her role as GayGay would take a frightening turn!  Her oldest grandson, Harrison (now aged 20), contracted a flu virus that attacked his heart.  "He was in the hospital for about 2 months, and it was touc...
