Meet Sherry Bluhm

If you don't already know, Sherry Bluhm doesn't take herself too seriously.  Having grown up in a very legalistic religion, Sherry finds the gift of Freedom in Christ as an invitation to truly enjoy life and show the world that walking with Jesus is a fun adventure.

And adventure she does!  Sherry's primary adventure is being married to her husband, Brian.  Sherry says they've been married for twenty-three wonderful years for a total of
twenty-four years.  We're sure it's this ability to laugh that has made so many of their years together wonderful.  Brian is an elder at Beltway Park and Sherry is blessed to be his "head cheerleader". Though she didn't quite envision herself as an elder's wife, in college Sherry was asked to write where she saw herself in ten years and she wrote that she would be married to a youth pastor.  Brian was a youth pastor before he and Sherry met, giving ground for a prophetic spiritual gift in Sherry.

Sherry and Brian have been blessed with three more adventures together, their children.  They have three; Conagher is twenty, Garrison is seventeen and Lincoln is eleven.  Recently, Sherry became "Mom" to
two foreign exchange students as well.  Her eyes were open through that experience to how much need there is for the nations to be reached for Christ.  Recently, Sherry has also had a passion birthed inside her for foster children in the Abilene area.  She has a burden for these kids that need homes but are often moved out of the city to other areas simply because there aren't enough foster homes in Abilene.  Sherry is listening to the Lord on how she can play a part in that arena.

Sherry has been gifted with the spiritual gift of hospitality.  She loves welcoming people into her home and making them feel comfortable.  Over time, she has learned the difference between hospitality and entertaining.  Now, when a friend drops by and needs to visit, Sherry is comfortable moving her laundry of off the sofa so they can sit down for a chat.  What a valuable lesson to learn!

Sherry also has discovered she has the gift of learning languages. Currently, she is trying to enhance that gift.  This gifting has paired perfectly with some adventures Sherry never thought she would experience.  Due to Brian's business, Sherry has had the privilege of traveling around the world to places like Amsterdam, Columbia, Netherlands, Brazil, Vietnam and Israel.

It's adventures like these that wouldn't have happened if Sherry and Brian hadn't trusted God when He asked them to take a huge faith step by selling their gymnastics gym without having another job at the time.  While she says there certainly were hard days, Sherry declares that they never went without a meal and didn't lose their house, so God was faithful to His word!

When Sherry is living out her adventures at home, she enjoys water skiing, sky diving, coaching gymnastics and having people over to their home.  Decompressing is hard for Sherry who is an "all go or no go" kind of person.  When she does decompress she enjoys taking her dogs on walks and doing Zumba, just not at the same time, she clarified.

As you can tell, Sherry is a wonderful, risk taking woman who lives life to the fullest.  She loves to laugh and can even share a funny on herself.  One such time was at a Christmas party for the lifegroup they had recently joined.  They were asked to bring White Elephant Gifts, but as the gifts were being opened, she realized it was really a Dirty Santa type gift exchange where people had brought nice gifts, but could steal from each other.  Sherry cringed knowing there was an old telephone system discarded from their old business and a paint stained sweatshirt wrapped in the boxes she and Brian had brought.  Thankfully, the people who got those gifts were very gracious!

Look for Sherry around Beltway Park and make effort to get to know this fantastic and fun lady!

Breakthrough by Audra Butler

I have been feeling some very strange and growing emotions since quarantine began.  I can’t define them. The only way to describe them are jumbled and cloudy.  It’s as if my mind and heart are growing cloudier with each day. I was texting back and forth last night with a dear sister (because that’s what you do in quarantine 😂 ).  Her texts to me were the exact feelings I had been experiencing.  It was confirmation that we were to start praying for breakthrough. I woke up early this morning and was so ready to sit in His presence, open His word, read what He had for me and hear His sweet voice.  But, when I looked outside, the sunrise caught me!  I immediately ran out to enjoy the pinks and oranges filling the sky.  Then, I turned the opposite way and I was in awe of the almost full moon and a Great Blue Heron sitting so majestically on the neighbor’s pier.  Our Creator’s beauty always outdoes itself and speaks an infinite amount of word...
