Meet Sherrie Saltzgaber

And now...Sherrie Saltzgaber!

You may know Sherrie around Beltway Park as the Pastor of Freedom Ministries.  She is often involved in alter and healing prayer times, short term mission trips, kids' camps and teaching
Freedom classes.  It's in these ministries that Sherrie uses the spiritual gifts God has given her with all her might. Equipped with the gifts of Teaching, Wisdom, Faith, Prophecy and Counseling, Sherrie says she is honored to use them as the Lord brings hurting, confused, broken and stuck people into her life on a daily basis.  She is excited and blessed to partner with Holy Spirit in releasing Truth that opens their hearts and minds to God's fullness for their lives.

You can probably already see that Sherrie's passion is releasing the Kingdom of God on the earth no matter where she is or what she's doing!  Sherrie feels that she lived a good portion of her life in darkness, but now that she has experienced the Father heart of God, it is her responsibility and privilege to live out the New Creation she is in Christ.

Sherrie seeks to live out her calling first in her home as wife to Dirk.  She and Dirk have been married
for almost thirty-two years!  Together they have four grown children; a daughter, Corey, a son, Ryan and twin sons, Nathan and Derek.  These "children" have now blessed Sherrie and Dirk with several grandchildren.  Josiah is twelve, Caroline is eight, Levia is fourteen months and Rylee is four months.  There are also three precious grandbabies waiting in Heaven and Grandma YaYa (Sherrie) is so excited to be reunited with them one day!

As a young person, Sherrie NEVER dreamed she would one day become a pastor.  In fact, she believed quite the opposite, often hearing that she would never amount to anything spoken over her.  She had planned on becoming a police officer until she met her husband and her focus shifted to raising a family.  She lived a completely contented life as a military wife for twenty-three years, but when Dirk retired from service, they found themselves needing Sherrie to step into the work force.  Graciously, God had already begun to stir her heart and open many ministry doors for her during that year.  As Sherrie stepped into her role at Beltway, she was assured of God's promise that He was going to use her, a seemingly weak and simple vessel to show Himself strong.  And He does that through her on a daily basis!

Being the Freedom Pastor gives Sherrie the daily platform to really live out her own freedom in Christ.  She is learning that the only way to really live it out is in total dependance on Holy Spirit in ever increasing measure.  She says she is learning that it is better to let the Word of God read her, rather than she read the Word of God.  By that, Sherrie explains that
she wants the Holy Spirit to filter what she sees and hears through His Word, not filtering her circumstances through the Word for herself. She strives to take her thoughts captive, holding them in check with the Word of God.

It's this kind of closeness with the Holy Spirit that allows Sherrie to walk through offense with grace.  She believes that the Lord has taught her to keep a short account of offense, deal with the hurt and offense quickly and deal with it FIRST with Him.  She only deals with the offender if Holy Spirit directs and after she has received what she needs from Jesus.  She likes to look at offense as a "hot potato", literally throwing it off as soon as possible.

Being free from offense allows God to take Sherrie to places she never thought she would go.  She never thought she would travel around the world sharing the Gospel and loving on people.  From her
very first trip to Ireland, she was hooked.  She has fought past her overwhelming fear of flying to travel to Ireland eight times, Israel twice, London, Belgium, Budapest, Hungary and Mexico!

Aside from flying, the Lord has also led Sherrie through some major faith steps.  Her biggest to date has been walking with her children through the loss of their own children.  Sherrie's oldest son and his wife were faced with the decision to carry to term their daughter Gracen Faith, knowing that she would not be compatible with life outside of the womb.  Sherrie says her faith was stretched
sometimes to the point of almost breaking during that time, wanting so bad to fix or change their circumstances.  At the same time, Sherrie's other daughter-in-love miscarried twice.  In relentless sorrow, the Lord was kind to Sherrie and her family.  First, He assured them that He was near.  Second, He gave them an invitation to take Him at His Word.  Only by His strength were they able to walk through that circumstance and come out on the other side with joy.  Sherrie feels that like Job, she can say, "My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you."  Though experiences are not always good, Sherrie knows that our God is always good!  Walking through these times has cemented that truth in Sherrie's heart.

God has also been gracious to give Sherrie things she dearly loves in order to give her heart rest and relaxation from daily life.  Of course, at the top is being Grandma YaYa to her grandchildren, but beyond that, Sherrie loves to read, watch movies, shop for bargains and put together outfits.  She cherishes time with her children and family since they all live distances away and when she can, Sherrie loves to horseback ride.  To really decompress, Sherrie gets outside.  The outdoors have
always been a place of release for her.  She enjoys sitting in her beautiful back yard, listening to the wind through the trees or the birds' worshipful melodies.  She adores taking in all of God's creation.

Sherrie is full of teaching and wisdom and has so much to share!  Look forward to every opportunity to get to know this wonderful woman of God a little better!

Was it, like…: 3 minutes – reading daily devotional 14 minutes – reading the Bible 8 minutes – praying, (using the ACTS meth...
